I have a wonderful group of 2nd graders. We have 7 girls and 11 boys, all of whom love to learn!
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Our current needs are to update the technology that we have in our classroom. Most of our student computers were donated from businesses that updated their networks years ago. The digital cameras we use are outdated and worn out from excessive use.
My Philosophy:
I believe that every child learns in his/her own special way. As an educator, my goal is to find out my students' learning styles and craft lessons that will appeal to all learners. Putting technology into the students' hands is the best way for them to learn how to use it. I know some people are hesitant to turn over expensive equipment to children, but they really have a knack for learning it quickly and they are usually very careful with it.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am happily married and we have 3 wonderful children. I love reading, writing, photography, and working with computers.
College and Degrees:
I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from LSU way back in 1994. I received my Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in educational technology from NSU in 2006. I also received my Specialist's degree in the same field from NSU in 2008.
Activities:
In addition to the multitude of tasks that accompany my full-time job as a 2nd grade teacher, I also help coordinate our school's technology. I am the webmaster of our school's award-winning website. I am also the webmaster for one of our local high schools. I teach my faculty and teachers around the district how to utilize technology in the classroom.
Favorite Books:
The Bible, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, anything by C.S. Lewis, Ender's Game, and The Laughing Classroom.
Interests:
American history, biographies, digital technologies, web design, creative writing.
Employment History:
I am currently in my 15th year of teaching. I have been at Woodlake since I started teaching. I taught 1st grade for six years and have been teaching 2nd grade since then.
Why Do I Teach?:
I love to see "the light come on" as children discover the answer to a question they have or learn a new skill. Elementary grades students still have that love for learning and have not been jaded by poor learning experiences, so they are fun to work with.
