My classroom is located next to a Pre-K classroom that is housed within a middle school. I have eight students in my morning class who have who have a range of needs. I have students who have Autism, Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, and other developmental delays which include speech, fine motor, gross motor and social-emotional delays. I was so lucky to have six of my eight students return this year!
My other half of the day includes working with students who are receiving their services at home or are in PreK sites in St. Paul. These students also have a variety of needs and I am able to work with them in a less restrictive environment.
Position:
Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is that every child can learn and should be given the opportunity to learn. Children are inherently good and want to learn and grow. Some just need a little extra support and problem solving to find the best ways to help them succeed!
Personal Information:
Why Do I Teach?:
I love teaching Early Childhood Special Education because each child is so unique and different. Some kids need more help with their speech, others are learning how to walk and some are learning how to play with other children. All my students are different and one strategy does not work for all of them. I love thinking of new ways to adapt our classroom activities so everyone can participate. Seeing a child learn new skills over the course of a school year is amazing and inspiring!
