I have a very enthusiastic but well behaved class this year. They love art, music, writing, reading, history, science and math. My class is a good mixture of native born Californians and students from various countries in Africa and Mexico. We are an English only classroom, but at home my students speak English, French, Spanish and Arabic.
Position:
4th and 5th Grade Teacher
Needs:
Our classroom really needs a new computer. I have two computers that I donated from home; they are 5 and 10 years old. I currently document students' art work and presentations with my own camera. I would like to have student dedicated cameras, so they could learn to document their own work. If we had a digital movie camera, students could take moves of their presentations and our field trips and post them on the school's website. I would like to have digital voice recorder to tape stories for my two new comer students who are learning English. I would use a digital projector for teaching lessons and lecturing.
My Philosophy:
Students learn best in a rich, lively, active and creative classroom. Poorly funded schools should not be an obstacle to a rich learning environment.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because it is a calling for me. I teach students in Oakland Public Schools because there is a need for teachers who are dedicated to meeting the needs of students who come from less advantaged backgrounds. I strive to offer my students the richest classroom experience possible and to expose them to as many learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom as possible.
