My students are mostly urban minority students in the Flint, MI area. Most struggle with reading and math and need a lot of help to achieve the grade level standards.
Position:
Science/Math Teacher
Needs:
Resources to help make the curriculum more hands-on
My Philosophy:
My philosophy of education consists of acting at the crucial time to change a student’s life for the better. By enhancing my skills, using data-proven techniques, and incorporating concepts from graduate courses and other forms of professional development, I have increased my ability to accomplish this mission one student at a time. Effective teaching derives itself from an effective teacher. Teachers cannot wait for students to magically transform themselves—we must bring about that change every day in every class through conscientious effort.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I was born in Provo, Utah and moved to Iowa when I was 1 year old. My father worked for John Deere. When I was 2, I moved to Germany and spent 2 years there. I have been back several times and love the German culture. At age 4, my family returned to Iowa and I lived there until graduating from Pleasant Valley High School, right by the Mississippi River. I attended Brigham Young University immediately after high school during the summer and fall semesters. I then served a voluntary 2-year self-financed mission for my Church in Mexico. I still speak Spanish fluently and love Latins. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a second major in Math Education. I also completed their pre-med program. I worked at Jackson High in Jackson, MI for 1 year, then moved to Hamady High School where I have worked ever since. I went back to college to receive a master's degree from Marygrove College. I also completed chemistry and physics certification at Saginaw Valley State University. I met my wife 2 weeks after moving to Michigan and now we have 5 beautiful children and a cat.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I want to be the kind of teacher that I wished I would have had in high school.
I find teaching very relaxing and it feels natural. I've always loved it.
