Kipps Elementary School
Class Information:
Students per Class: Approximately 550
Class Description:
Class sizes at my school are about 21 on average (slightly lower in those classes where special needs students have been placed). Our school supports full integration of students -- we have many who are here from other countries (ESL), as well as special needs and gifted students -- all attend as members of "regular" classrooms.
Position:
Music Teacher
Needs:
My school and county are very supportive of the music program, but often overlook us in funding technology (preference is given to "academic" classroom needs). However, as the music teacher I work with all the students in the school, and using technology has always been a priority for me. I would like for my classroom to be as fully equipped as the students' homerooms are!
My Philosophy:
I believe that every student has within them the means to grow and learn and create and love the learning. All it takes from me is to find and foster the opportunities that will spark an interest, whether for performing or simply for being an informed consumer of music. The activities I provide at the elementary level will give my students the basis for their musical expression as they progress through their educational career and beyond. I believe that it is necessary for my students to be actively involved in the experience of music through listening, performing (singing, playing instruments, movement activities), and study (the musical concepts of melody, harmony, rhythm, tone color, expression, and form structure).
