I teach a class called Discoveries. Discoveries is a program designed to develop the potential of children who demonstrate above average intelligence, creativity, and task commitment in a challenging environment. In other words, my students and I get to do all the "fun stuff" that teachers dream about doing if they only had the time. My students come to class twice weekly for 40 minutes. I teach language arts, science and technology. My students must maintain a B average or better in all their other subjects to be able to come to my class. They work really hard to maintain their grades. My kids love Discoveries and so do I.
Position:
Discoveries Teacher
Needs:
Oh, what pictures and projects my students could astound me with if we only had a Mobile Digital Camera Lab. This would allow more of my 175 students to participate in "Shutterbugs". Shutterbugs is a photography component of my Discoveries classroom. We cross the curriculum with language arts, math, science and technology. At the present I can only accommodate 4th and 5th graders in the darkroom. Darkroom (a closet in a t-building) time
comes at a premium since it is only open after school due to the 40 minute class time constraints.

About Me:
I am the wife of a wonderful and very supportive husband, Kenny. We were blessed with two son's, Matthew and Aaron. They are both grown and on their own. Matthew is married to Kelly and they blessed Kenny and I with our two grandaughters, Mackenzie and Karis. Matthew is also a minister and is working on his doctorate. Aaron is not married, as of yet, but he is a paramedic fireman - one of our Hero's. The Lord has Blessed me tremendously.
College and Degrees:
I graduated with a BA in Education from LSU - Shreveport in Dec. of 1987.
I received my Maters of Education degree from Centenary College in 1994 and I will complete my plus 30 in educational technology in the spring of 2008
Favorite Quotes:
" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Philippians 4:13 NKJV
Interests:
Reading, crafts, sewing for my grandchildren, camping, and spending time with my family.
Employment History:
I have worked for the Caddo Parish School System in northwestern Louisiana for 20 years. I got a late start as I did not go back to college until my boys were in school. In 1997-1998 I was on loan from the school board to LSU-Shreveport. I taught in the College of Education for that year. I taught educational technology for education students and a math methodologies class.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I LOVE it. I love seeing the excitement in a child's eyes when they finally "get" it and I love the process we go through getting to that point. I teach because I believe learning should be FUN. Learning and going to school shouldn't hurt. If I can change that for my kids then I have made a difference.
