The curriculum incorporates all of the art disciplines including art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics. Students are encouraged to develop individual expression while meeting stated benchmarks and experimenting with various art materials and techniques. Building upon an understanding of the art elements and principles is a continual process. Students from grades kindergarten through fifth grade explore and appreciate artists throughout the history of art and around the world. The art curriculum and core curriculum are often integrated to provide a holistic approach to education.
Position:
Art Teacher
Needs:
There are endless applications for integrating technology into the Art classroom; I am seeking ways to obtain hardware for use with my students. For example, a simple camera could be used to document student work for display on a website, building recognition and pride in our community. I would also take advantage of being able to take photos of students for use in portrait projects. Ideally, students would have access to cameras themselves, giving them a new window on the world and insight into the art medium of photography.
My Philosophy:
Education is a lifelong development and learning is what gives life meaning. Learning increases one’s ability to see beauty and one’s understanding of self and others. My greatest hope is to promote learning as a positive and exciting experience in which the reward is the process itself. I wholeheartedly believe in the constructivist approach to student-centered,active learning and authentic assessment. I take from the existentialist philosophy the idea of both freedom and responsibility at once. I also highly value the progressivist emphasis on problem-solving, process over product, and education as life. I want these beliefs to have a deep and lasting influence on students so that they may take it upon themselves to forever continue to grow into remarkable human beings.
