I teach "K3." My class is small. I currently have 7 students...3 boys and 4 girls. Our K4 class here at Freedom Christian Academy has 16 students.
Position:
K3 teacher
Needs:
Our PreK classes here at Freedom Christian Academy would like to purchase at least 2 Ipads...one for our K3 class and one for our K4 class for teacher and student use.
My Philosophy:
My personal philosophy of education involves teaching students with a Christian worldview. Everything we teach here at Freedom Christian Academy is traced back to Biblical principles. Freedom Christian Academy partners with parents to love God and others, to serve, and to excel. I firmly believe that. By encouraging students to give their best to Christ, I believe they will excel in academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. I also believe that students learn best when given hands on experiences to learn new skills and to enhance skills they already have acquired.
Personal Information:
About Me:
My name is Vicki Flynn. I have been teaching in an early childhood/elementaryeducation setting for 20 years. For 17 of those years I taught in the public sector, primarily in kindergarten. For the past three years, I have taught here at Freedom Christian Academy. Currently, I am teaching the K3 class. Teaching three year olds is quickly becoming my all time favorite age to teach! My students show up to school ready to learn each morning and soak up everything like little sponges.
College and Degrees:
I attended the University of TN here in Knoxville where I received a B.S. in Early Childhood Education in 1994 and a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction in 1995.
Activities:
I am the staff sponsor for the boys' basketball team here at Freedom Christian Academy. This school year I started our first 4-H Club. Outside of school, I attend Seymour United Methodist Church where I help with my children's youth activities.
Favorite Books:
The Holy Bible
The Power of the Praying Parent
Little House on the Prairie Series
StrawberryGirl
Favorite Quotes:
"If that don't get your fire started, your wood's wet." (my grandmother)
Interests:
I currently live on a farm where my children and I raise goats and chickens. I also love to spend time gardening, cooking, fishing and traveling with my children, and playing with my dogs.
Employment History:
Freedom Christian Academy, Knoxville, TN - 2012-present- K3/K4 teacher
Knox County Schools, Knoxville, TN - 1994-2012- Elementary teacher (majority of time spent teaching kindergarten)
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I firmly believe that it is a calling on my life. I believe that a person is called into the ministry of teaching, just as someone might be called to be a pastor. I don't just teach ABCs and 123s to young children....I serve families! I love what I do and could not imagine myself doing anything else.
