Desert Meadows
Hometown:
Buckeye, AZ
Class Information:
Room Number: 36
Students per Class: 31
Class Description:
My class has a wonderful mixture of races and backgrounds. Many of the students have poor social skills and lack family support. Fortunately, our district believes in cooperative learning, so we work together in class, discussing and refining ideas in a possitive way.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
We need: - a document camera (for our digital projector) - color printer/scanner -color ink - subscription to Brainpop.com (PLEASE check out their site - it's amazing)
My Philosophy:
Why? I constantly ask myself why my students would want to do this and how I can make it accessible to them. I believe that students need to be talking to practice language and make sense of a topic. I feel that they need plenty of exposure to learning in as many formats as I can provide - from singing songs at the piano to taking a trip outside. Learning in my room is rarely a "Sit down and be quiet" activity.
Personal Information:
About Me:
A "stay at home" mom for years, I homeschooled and later volunteered extensively in my children's schools. My love for making learning simple led me to teach.

Favorite Quotes:
The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled. Plutarch Educationis an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity. Aristotle If a man neglects education, he walks lame to the end of his life. Plato He must increase. I must decrease. John the Baptist
Interests:
My biggest hobby is teaching. I enjoy looking for new ideas and creating interesting activites. Fun ideas often pop into my and get me up early.
Employment History:
I've taught in the first and third grades. I was also a private music teacher for years. I'm currently the team lead, which means, in my mind, that I serve the needs of the other teachers on my team.
Why Do I Teach?:
I believe in the "hard-luck" cases. I have a clear vision of what I want to accomplish with students and a strong desire to create an impact by teaching them skills that will benefit their entire life. I'm highly motivated and often remind myself to slow down and bring other teachers along for the ride.
