I teach art in a rural community. I am the only art teacher in a school of 780 student. I teach every student in the school each year (except Band kids). Our student are mostly middle-low income, 3rd generation farm kids with little diversity.
Position:
art teacher
Needs:
Opening the world to these culturally deprived children and allowing them to experience the world in a global classroom is very important goal in the art class. We are in serious need of a good quality screen that we can project onto and we need a laptop that we could use to hook into our digital projector so students could do virtual museums tours in class, we would also love the technology to do pod cast with global art students or museum curators around the world. Virtual transportation is the only means 98% of these childeren will have to see beyond their backyard. I want to open their world and minds to more. Technology is the key to their future. Our school is very open to technology and offering our teachers as much as possible - unfortunately with system cut backs getting many extras is almost impossible. THank you for considering this request!
My Philosophy:
Every child is a unique treasure box filled with amazing possibilities. My purpose is to allow that treasure to manifest itself into a tangible commodity before it's squashed by circumstances or dispair. I want to open the world to each child so they can see how life is a network of learning and a global responsibility - that all people are just people who mostly all want the same things - to live a positive, contributing life that enriches and is enriched.
