Southwest Junior High School
Class Information:
Room Number: 105
Students per Class: 8
Class Description:
I am a special education teacher. I work with students that have emotional/behavioraldisabilities, autism spectrum disorder and developmental cognitive disabilities. The students that I work with require special education services at least 40% of their school day.
Position:
Special Education Teacher
Needs:
We need technology in the classroom to create active and engaged lessons. The students that I work with require multiple modes of teaching (i.e. visual, hands-on, interactive) to comprehend what they are learning. When they get to the junior high level, many of my students have become disengaged and want to give up. I need something new, fun and interactive to get them excited about learning!
My Philosophy:
I believe that each student is a unique individual that requires attention, compassion, and security to learn. It is my job to create an environment that is safe and stimulating to foster each student's learning profile. I can create this environment by (1) encouraging discussion and higher level thinking, (2) allowing the students to problem-solve, and (3) promoting respect for self, others and the environment.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a mother to a wonderful 18 month old daughter. I love spending time with my family. I thrive to better myself as a person and teacher every chance that I get.
College and Degrees:
University of Wisconsin-StevensPoint: B.S. Exceptional Education SouthwestMinnesota State University: M.S. Special Education
Favorite Quotes:
Don't look back, because you might fall over what is in front of you.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I want to make a difference in each one of my student’s lives. Whether it is a small (teaching a mnemonic devise that they will remember when they are 50) or a large (being the one person they know they can come to that is safe) impact, knowing that I have helped is all that I need. I teach because I love to see the small steps that each student takes to get to where they end up!
