I teach digital photography and literacy. I combine visual literacy with reading and writing. I also teach AP Studio Art with a Photography emphasis.
Position:
teacher
Needs:
My students live in an impoverished neighborhood and often can not afford their own camera. With dwindling educational funding, I am left with fewer cameras while my class size increases. Because they don't have access in the evenings and on weekends, their creativity is stifled. What I really need is enough cameras to allow every student to have a camera of their own.
My Philosophy:
Our first language is visual - we reach and point and touch. Educators frequently ignore the very instinctual role that art can bring to the so-called 3R's. Students need more art to provide real anchors for much more theoretical classroom studies.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I am a teacher. Teaching is a calling much like the priesthood. If you are born a teacher, you can not escape your detiny. Teaching is as much a part of yourself as your eye color.
