I teach a class of children in the bush of Alaska. We are a total standards based school. My students are grades 3rd-5th in one class room. They are all within two standard levels of each other. Technology is our only link to the outside world. There are no roads to our village. The only way in or out is by small bush plane and it is very expensive. That is why computers are so important to us, it is the only way for our children to experience the outside world.
Position:
Elementary teacher
Needs:
I am trying to get computers for my classroom. Because my room is extremely small, desk tops are not an option. Therefore I am trying to purchase 6 laptops and a laptop cart. The total cost is about $6000. This will help me to teach my class better as I can teach technology standards to at least half of my class at a time rather than teaching only 3 at a time as we do now. It takes us three times as long to work through our technology standards due to the fact that I only have 3 desktops and only 3 students can work on the computer at a time.
My Philosophy:
If you can get a child hooked on learning at a young age then you have a better chance at making them life long learners which will lead them to success in life.
