I teach K-8th grade. My students are interested in the world outside of their neighborhoods. Each class has a mix of boys and girls with all ranges of academic abilities. Many of my students come from poverty situations but understand that education and hard work can elevate them from that situation.
Position:
Art Teacher
Needs:
The art program at my school is new and there is not a lot of reserve materials or tools. Everything from paper to a printing press is needed and would be used. With budget cuts across the education platform it has been difficult to afford the basics much less anything with a high ticket price.
My Philosophy:
I strive to bring a diverse range of experiences to my students. I am making community contacts in local industry to acquire materials that are by products of manufacturing. I believe that artists have always used "found objects" and local resources and that "not having" is a state of mind. I want my students to know that if they have a desire to create art materials are available and the knowledge about technique can be learned from many resources.
My philosophy could be summed up as: Keep your eyes open, keep your heart open, work hard, share what you learn and enjoy life.
Personal Information:
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because it is the most significant way to touch the heart of humanity. In every persons life a teacher has made a significant contribution... there would be no doctors, lawyers, politicians, storekeepers...withouta teacher who helped them learn the language of that trade or profession.
I teach the arts because I think that it is important for people to understand that communication from the beginning of human history until this moment has been through each cultures art. It is the reason we know about the first humans and it is the way we find out and interpret our current place in the world. Art is the artifact of human existence.
