Employment History:
My first adventure at working was at the Light House for the Blind, typing and stuffing envelopes. I learned quickly that this was not my career and left the Light House. I began working at a green house/floral shop. I developed a love of plants and flowers through this experience and continued working at a floral shop for 13 years. Due to relocation I was not able to find a shop near by therefore, I became a business owner and opened my very own flower shop. After 3 years, I decided that a flower shop was not profitable enough, especially in a small town. I closed up the shop and began my college adventure. My first teaching position was in Mathis, Texas. I then moved closer to my home in Camp Wood, TX and have been teaching at Nueces Canyon for over 17 years.
Why Do I Teach?:
There are days when I ask myself the same question,” Why do I teach?” Then I look at my students and realize that there are some that would not succeed if I was not here. I began the education experience because my family needed financial security. My husband is a carpenter, which means that work is not always stable. My 2nd-10 years of teaching were great. (I try to forget my 1st year of teaching) The teaching profession has slowly taken a turn and unfortunately my passion for teaching began to change also. I had to conquer a growing negative attitude. I continue to plunge forward and keep my mind on the joys of the profession. My desire is to give my students the best possible education for a successful life. Without the help of a teacher some students would not make it through high school, once out of high school life becomes more of a challenge for these young adults. I am honored to be one of the few that provides tools for students to work through obstacles that confronts them as they take out on their own.
