Meadow Wood Elementary School
Hometown:
Houston, Texas
Class Information:
Students per Class: 50
Class Description:
I serve 2 classes of 25 students each day. The students range in economical and ethnic backgrounds.
Position:
Reading/ Social Studies
Needs:
Our school does not qualify for Title I money, so our technology resources are limited. I just received an ACTIV board last year through our PTA's funding. My students would love to have ACTIV slates to interact with the board, as well as several laptops to use for research and independent work. Our school does not own a digital video camera, so none of their performances can be filmed for them to view unless given to the teachers by a parent.
My Philosophy:
I feel it is important to engage students in their learning. I tend to hand more of the responsibilty to them so that they find ownership in their discoveries. Technology is a great leveling tool because each child can use different sites or applications to facilitate his/her learning and understanding.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Elementary Education. I am currently taking graduate classes through University of Houston - Clear Lake to become a school librarian.
Employment History:
This is my 9th year of teaching. Four of those years I have taught fifth grade, which I really enjoy! They are on the cusp of maturity and are ready to take on more challenges and more independence.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach to inspire young minds to always question and strive to learn and understand more of the world around them. I feel that if I can help a child find some enjoyement in reading and finding out answers to his/her questions, I can help build a child who will always want to learn more, no matter what they do!
