Class Description:
I teach Advanced Broadcast Journalism. I teach it in three levels. Level one covers the mass media and its impact on society. Level two produces a daily announcements/ news program called "Gator Tales" that is seen throughout the school. Level three produces sports production seen on the video wall on the scoreboard during sporting events at Sam Vitanza Stadium. I am also the newspaper advisor for "The Gator News".

Needs:
For Broadcast Journalism, I need blank mini DV tapes. I also need blank DVD's for my students to keep permanent copies of their work. My big wish is for a Reflect Media Chroma Key Ring for a Canon XH-A1 video camera and a Reflect Media Media background measuring 15 x10 ft. This equipment is needed to have professional chroma background effects without the space and lighting requirements of a studio. I only have a corner of a classroom to do video productions. As a newspaper advisor, I am in need of Adobe CS3 print design software. Our class only has MS Word to layout and produce newspapers. Another need for the newspaper program is digital SLR cameras with lenses. Our program only has 2 simple point and shoot cameras. We will also need memory cards for these cameras.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is easy. It is "hands on". The best way to learn a subject is to do it. Students learn best when they are active and engaged with their assignment. I also try to keep up with the technology. My goal is for when students leave the DHS Media program, they are ready for internships at local newspapers and television stations.

Mostly, I am a fun loving easy going guy. When it comes to work I can be intense but in a good way. I make sure goals are met but in a fun way.

My favorite activities are taking my kids to baseball games, fishing, and the park. I love spending time with my wife. And I also like playing and watching sports.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I feel I have something to share with my students and it is fun. If it isn't fun, then both the students and I are going to have a long day. I also teach because I want y students to know that I care about them and I want something better for them. With hard work and determination, it can be achieved.
