I teach media to all 600 plus students in our elementary. I teach DK-5th Grade. The class is media, which is library and technology combined. This is the first year for the combination. Last year I designed the layout and we put the two together. It is small, but has worked out wonderfully. I have 28 student machines and a small library of some wonderful books. I work to combine the Michigan Technology Standards along with library skills in my weekly lessons.
Position:
Media Teacher
Needs:
Because of the layout of the room, I am in need of another projector and screen so that both sides of the room have a clear view....even better would be a moveable smart board. I would also love to have the software that allows me to display my demos on each individual computer. We currently have one webcam for our entire lab. One for each computer would be awesome! A set of digital cameras for the students to use would also allow me to teach a lesson on digital photography. Currently we have two cameras for the lab.
My Philosophy:
It is my responsiblity to prepare my students to be successful in a technological world. Technology is dynamic, so I feel the best way to do that is to expose my students to as much current technology as possible in the most creative and applicable ways. I believe showing them how they can apply technology to all facets of their learning makes them a stronger learner. I want my students to be confident to explore new technologies in order to learn more about them. I want to help students become proactive learners and develop an interest on their own to keep abreast of new technologies.
