Class Description:
I teach a class of 26 5th grade students: 11 girls and 15 boys. They have a range of abilities from slightly below grade level to gifted.

My Philosophy:
Technology is a great tool to keep students engaged, add a real world component to the lesson, and enable the class to reach beyond the four walls of the classroom.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching for seven years for the Lakota Local School District. For the first six years at Lakota, I taught computer lab to first through sixth graders. This year is my first year in the regular classroom. I am enjoying teaching fifth grade. I have also taught reading, math, writing, study skills and homework support at Sylvan Learning Centers and have inputted sites into Nettrekker, a safe search engine for kids.
College and Degrees:
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (1-8) with concentrations in math, science, and social studies from Miami University, Ohio Master's degree in Integrating Technology in the K-12 Curriculum from Walden University

Sept. 2008- 5th Grade Teacher, Heritage Elementary, Lakota Local School District Sept. 2007-2008 ComputerLab Instructor, Heritage Elementary, Lakota Local School District - Created and implemented lesson plans with grades 3rd – 6th which integrated technology into the core instructional areas, collaborated with the rest of the staff, and aided in staff development and computer maintenance. - Worked on a district-wide team led by Melissa Prohaska that developed a new start page for Lakota called Lakota Learning Links. June 2007- Web Site Evaluator, Thinkronize - Located, evaluated, and reviewed sites to be incorporated into the safe search engine Nettrekker. Sept.2002-2007 ComputerLab Instructor, Independence Elementary, Lakota Local School District - Created and implemented lesson plans with grades 1st – 6th which integrated technology into the core instructional areas, collaborated with the rest of the staff, and aided in staff development and computer maintenance. - Served as team leader of the specials department (Sept. 2004-2007). Sept.2001-2005 Instructor,Sylvan Learning Center, West Chester, Ohio - Became Sylvan-certified and instructed students in grades 1-12 by implementing Sylvan’s Academic Reading, Academic Writing, Basic Math, Study Skills, and Homework Support programs.
