Class Description:
6th grade math class comprised of 95% African-American students, low SES. Also included in this class are Special Ed Inclusion Students. An inclusion teacher is in the room with me every day as well.
Position:
6th grade math teacher
Needs:
-Would like a laptop that can be "checked out" and sent home with students - Elmo projector for sharing their work with classmates, and for instruction - Big wish? A SmartBoard!
My Philosophy:
All kids can learn. My kids have a hard time because they lack motivation, support, and parental involvement. Technology does grab their attention and provide a motivation and interest in learning.
Personal Information:
About Me:
Have been teaching for 23 years... 21 of them in inner-city schools. Single mom (husband deceased) of 3 teenage/college sons.
College and Degrees:
Bachelors and masters in elem ed/math and science from LSU in Baton Rouge.
Employment History:
21 years in East Baton Rouge public schools (11 in elementary, the last 10 in middle) 2 years private school, elementary (when just out of college)
Why Do I Teach?:
Because I love kids. Because they need good teachers. Because I was bad in math and know now how important it is, and that it doesn't have to be hard, and boring... and that the teacher DOES make the difference. Because I like working with these kids who need so much and are so challenging every day.
