I work with all students at my school in grades K-5. I help teachers integrate technology into their lessons for the four core content areas (Math, LA, Science, and Social Studies). I also work with all specialists (P.E., Music, Library, and Art) to integrate technology with their specific content areas.
Position:
ITRT
Needs:
Engaging students in their learning is a priority in our school. We would love to add more SMARTBoards to our classrooms so that all students have access to this interactive tool at all times! Currently, we have one SMARTBoard in the Lab that is shared by all 600+ students in our school. At times it is difficult for classes to reserve time to use the SMARTBoard because the Lab is being used by another teacher. By adding more SMARTBoards to our classrooms, teachers can prepare more interactive lessons and provide additional opportunities for students to retain concepts learned in class.
My Philosophy:
I believe every child can learn if they are engaged in the learning that surrounds them. Our students are being raised in a digital age and it is our responsibility to equip them with the resources they need to be successful in future endeavors. By engaging students with technology, my role is to be the coach, assisting them on their educational journey while incorporating the use of technological tools to create responsible, confident, and productive citizens for our community.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I began teaching in 1997 in a low-income school hidden by the casinos of Las Vegas, Nevada. From my very first teaching experience, I came to appreciate the generosity of others in helping my students become the best they could be. Since that time, I've taught in Memphis, TN, Staunton, VA and now Mechanicsville, VA. I am also a mom, so I see the value of education through both lenses: as an educator and as a parent.
College and Degrees:
I received my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Radford University in 1994 and I received my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from James Madison University in 2006.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach now for the same reasons I taught more than ten years ago. I teach to make a difference. I teach to empower children. I teach because the joy I receive from watching a child finally "get it" is worth more than any payroll check can provide. I teach because, for me, there is no greater calling than to play an instrumental part in the life of a child.
