I am a first year teacher at a Title 1 charter school with 20 students. My class has a landscape painted all the walls and a 3D tree in the corner. The tree will be used for many projects - maybe even one involving photography if I am blessed to receive a camera.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I am a first year teacher and basically need it all. Well, I do have the basics, but that is about it. I love activities that require hands on work, so I need whatever resources I can get my hands on - I'm not picky. I love recycleables!
My Philosophy:
I believe EVERY child has the ability to learn.
I believe every child learns differently.
I believe it is my job to find out how to reach every child.
I believe EVERY child deserve the best in education, no matter their income, color, religion or background.
Ibelievelearning can be FUN!
I believe students should be engaged.
I believe I have a desire to make a difference in the lives of my students.
I believe every student I have is not just my student for a year, but for a lifetime.
Personal Information:
About Me:
This is my first official year teaching. I was a SAHM for 13 years. I have 3 brilliant, creative children. I love being a mom! I love children. As I was always at my children's school, subbing was the natural job for me when it was time to go back to work. That lasted a year. In Oct '07 I was offered a kindergarten subbing postiion through the end of Nov. I became attached to the students quickly. Through our break in Dec, I did all the research and by January I was accepted into an Alternative Education program for people who already held degrees. In Jan I was offered to continue subbing the kindergarten class for the rest of the year. Jackpot! This summer I recieved my intern teaching certification. I can teach while going to school. So I am back in Kindergarten! Who'd a thunk? I thought I would want to teach art in the upper grades, but I am loving Kindergarten!
College and Degrees:
BFA with a focus in painting and photography from Alfred University. Currently working on my MA in Education.
Activities:
Love to hang out with my kids. Being is school and working full time does not lend itself to many activities.
Favorite Books:
No favorites - just love to read!
Interests:
Walking, reading (when there is time), Bible study, drinking tea and visiting with friends
Why Do I Teach?:
I chose to teach because I believe after being a mom, it is what I was born to do. I love children. I want give every child two gifts: a desire to learn and a passion for reading. With those two gifts they can do anything they put their minds to.
