My classroom is the classroom that people feel comfortable in. The environment is conducive to learning. As a former interior decorator, aesthetics are a very important part of my life. I know that if I want to be in my room, then my kids will feel that ambience. I wish I didn't have to have so many monitors so that all my kids could see the screens, but I've tried to make it work.
Position:
English Teacher
Needs:
I really need a SmartBoard with a projector or a large screen television. That way, all my students could see the screen and it would free up a lot of space in my room. I could use the extra space for more bookcases to use for the books we have for Silent Sustained Reading.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is that teaching is part love of what I am teaching, part discipline to manage my classroom, and part continued learning on my part. I should never get to the point where I don't want to learn new things to share with my students. If I become complacent, then it is time to retire.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I started teaching 22 years ago and then took a break to raise my daughter. After I almost died in 2001, I realized how much I really missed teaching. So I decided to go back and get my Master's and become recertified. I've never regretted the decision. Although some days are hard because I have Spina Bifida, it's all worth it when a student tells me to have a great day or that he or she loves me.
College and Degrees:
BS, Family and Consumer Sciences, Pensacola Christian College
MEd, University of Phoenix, Secondary English
Activities:
Student Government Adviser, Skyward Support
Favorite Books:
The Bible, Deception Point, The School of Essential Ingredients, anything by Iris Johannsen and Janet Evanovitch
Favorite Quotes:
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. - Helen Keller
Get over it - the Eagles
I teach because I love learning and sharing with my students. I enjoy watching students gain a sense of personal fulfillment when they start to understand a concept.
