Class Information:
Room Number: 809
Students per Class: 125
Class Description:
I teach about 120 8th grade students (last year's data). I teach half of them on A Day and the other half on B Day. I have 3 science classes a day. My class size usually ranges from 19 to 24 students. Since math and language arts subjects have been tested with standardized assessments for the past decades in our state, more emphasis has been placed on those subjects. In my school, science has less instructional time and resources. The other subjects have many of the technologies needed for 21st century learning whereas my class is lacking. I need more technology and funding to foster a learning environment that is conducive to 21st century learning and helping my students become competitive with other students in our nation.">Since math and language arts subjects have been tested with standardized assessments for the past decades in our state, more emphasis has been placed on those subjects. Teacher
Needs:
Since math and language arts subjects have been tested with standardized assessments for the past decades in our state, more emphasis has been placed on those subjects. In my school, science has less instructional time and resources. The other subjects have many of the technologies needed for 21st century learning whereas my class is lacking. I need more technology and funding to foster a learning environment that is conducive to 21st century learning and helping my students become competitive with other students in our nation. This year, for the first time, all 8th grade students will have personal labtops in my school. I need technology to be able to adequately implement technology in my classroom and be able to model for my students as needed. In addition, I feel students need opportunities to learn based on their learning styles. With technology such as a Smart board, document camera, flip camera, and assessories, I will be able to enhance my science instruction with 1:1 laptops and offer opportunities that make learning real world and relevant.
My Philosophy:
I believe every student can learn and will learn if given the opportunity and resources. Students are unique individuals with different learning styles. Therefore, our instruction cannot be "one size fits all." Educators must recognize these learning styles and differentiate instruction to reach all learners. I believe science must be hands-on and must incorporate technology to make it real-world and relevant to our future problem solvers and scientists so they may become lifelong learners.
