Class Information:
Room Number: Stage
Students per Class: 75
Class Description:
Being that Theatre is an elective class, students must choose to be a part of this classroom. It is then that our class is rewarded with a variety of students, that come together and work as a family. They build stages, create costumes, write a play, or share the stage becoming a new character.
Position:
Theatre Arts teacher
Needs:
We have a very out-dated stage. There is not a sound booth nor lights to control or operate. The students must open a fuse box to turn the lights on and off the stage.
My Philosophy:
These students are VERY limited to producing amazing plays due to the technology that could be used on the stage with lighting. When they compete they are given one hour to learn how to run the dimmers, set the stage lights, and prepare the actors on stage to "find the light" . These are all instrumental when producing a play for an audience.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a mother only to my students. I take great pride in raising these children at school. To see them succeed at a variety of things in life is a great accomplishment for me.
College and Degrees:
Bachelor of Science in Communications / Minor in Theatre from Tarleton State University. I began my Masters in Library Science/ Speech at Texas Women's University of Denton.
Favorite Books:
Wizard of Oz series is my favorite books. They helped pave the future of entertainment in a variety of ways. I also appreciate any of the Dr Seuss books based on their creativity to help children learn.
Favorite Quotes:
My quote that I grew to love came from my father who said this to me frequently growing up.."you get out of life, what you put into life."
Interests:
I love creativity, broadway plays, reading books that catch the interest of our youth, and laughing.
Employment History:
I taught Special Education for 8 years at DeLeon Isd. During that time I also was the Jr High One Act Play director. I then moved to Comanche ISD where I have taught for the past 5 years. My classroom activities have included English, Reading, the Librarian but I am always the Theatre teacher.
Why Do I Teach?:
Teaching is a passion. To see a child come to life and find what they can claim as their own education is an amazing payment. To know that I can make a difference in someones life each and everyday is a challenge and a reward.
