Class Description:
I teach all curricula in a self-contained, 3rd grade at a high poverty (92%), "high-risk" school. Many of the children in this area may never make it to high school, let alone college. In order for these children to succeed academically, they will have to know the basics of Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. They need the strong reading, writing and mathematic foundations that we were all offered when we were young. I want to provide my students with the basics so that they may move upward and outward into a successful life.

My Philosophy:
Research has proven that today's children's brains are wired differently as a result of the high tech society in which we now reside. In order to tap into children's technology wired brains, a technology rich classroom is essential. By taking the curriculum out of the text book and putting it into a means of which the children can understand and associate, I am able to build their excitement and love of learning. Once they are excited then they are unstoppable!

About Me:
I am a wife of 20 years, and mother of two beautiful, intelligent (gifted/learning disabled) children. Education is a critical part of my life.
College and Degrees:
I attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport and hold the following degrees: BA in Art Education, Master of Education with a Reading Specialist Certification. I am also certified in the following grades/areas: Art K-12, Reading PK-12, Supervision of Student Teaching, Elementary Education PK - 5.
Activities:
Family is essential to me - I love to spend time with my husband, daughter, future son-in-law, son, and puppy. We frequently get together to go to movies, watch television, play pool, board games and go on vacations.
Favorite Books:
I have read all of the Harry Potter series books 4 times each!! I have also read each of the Twilight series twice. I read all of the C.S. Lewis, Chronicles of Narnia books for the first time when I was 7 years old, and read them for the fifth time just a few years ago. I have too many favorite books!!!

Employment History:
I taught in Bossier Parish for 2 1/2 years then transferred to Caddo Parish where I taught for 9 years. I then took a year off from classroom teaching to be a Teaching and Learning Consultant with AXI Education Solutions. I am now back in the classroom in Bossier Parish.
