Joan Lansford is the only art teacher at a rural Western North Carolina high school that serves approximatly 1100 students. Her class average is 28 students and she teaches an average of 80 students a day. She teaches
approximately8 academically gifted students and 7 special needs students. The college bound population of the student body is 46%. Our school is made up of 91% white/Caucasian, 5% Hispanic, 1% African American, with less than 1% of Native American, Asian, and Multi- Racial students.

Needs:
My students are in need of technological equipment that aligns with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. I have one old computer that I use to serve the entire art student body.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is to take all measures available to me in order to elevate my art students to the basic standards required of them for college and career development.

Bachelors of Art Education from University of Florida, State Certified in North Carolina to teach K-12, along with Art 1-4, Pottery 1-3, and AP class certification.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I am passionate about art; art is a universal communicator that accepts multi-level educational strategies, it is a touchstone that allows students to work from their heart into intelligence.
