Class Description:
A mix of 1st and 2nd graders.

Needs:
There are about 25-30% of students on free lunch program. The county is hard hit economically so this will undoubtedly increase. About 1/3 of class usually qualifies for extra reading help through Title program. We need access to technology the children and I can use independently.
My Philosophy:
I believe children learn by doing and solving problems with the support of adults--not the total control of adults. It is important for all learners to have as much autonomy as possible to become self-directed learners. This means teachers have to be knowledgeable in many methods and techniques to match each child with what will work for him/her. Lack of available technology that both the children and I are comfortable with makes it difficult to do more than "drill and kill" on the computers we have. While this has a place in learning I would love to provide more for the children I work with! This is an avenue to that end. Thank you.
