As a special education teacher, I currently work with students in 7 different classrooms, kindergarten through 5th grade. Our children with disabilities are fully included in regular education classrooms and not placed in a resource room. Everyday I am thankful for our school philosophy and practice of full inclusion. There are small group spaces throughout the building that the English Language Learners (ELLs), reading and math resource and special education use for small group instruction. It is in one of these small group spaces that we are hoping to supply a Smart Board.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love to learn. However, I teach Special Education because my sister is severely dyslexic. She struggled enormously in school and dreaded going. Every morning she climbed the stairs on the school bus looking as if she had the weight of the world on her tiny shoulders. She was (and is) tough and tenacious in her struggle with dyslexia, but she was never very happy in school. I want every child to love school, especially those students who need it the most. One way to make learning fun and exciting is to pair up subjects that are difficult for a child, like reading, with technology. There is something very compelling and joyous about seeing a child burst with confidence as he shows the class how to use the technology. He gets to be the expert and there is nothing better than that. Digital Wish gives so many people the opportunity to share that joy. I love it!
