EIP Math Teacher
My Philosophy:
I teach EIP Math, which means I help students who struggle with math. How many kids do you know who could use a little help in math??? That's what I do!! I get the opportunity to work with second grade through fifth grade. It's so encouraging to me to see a student's face light up as the exclaim "I GET IT!!" I love to watch their excitement build and help them see that math can actually be fun!! Once they see math can be fun, it only makes sense for them to enjoy it more, which in turn helps them understand the concepts. You may be thinking...math and fun!?!? Those two words don't belong in the same sentence. Well, in my class, they do! I make it fun by using lots of different hands on materials and tools and other strategies. Their favorite day is when we go to the computer lab because they actually get to do things themselves. We live in a world where education is often seen as boring because they have so much technology at home and outside of school. Most schools are boring because we can't compete with what's going on outside the school walls due to lack of funds. A majority of my students are economically disadvantaged. They don't have the luxuries that other students have at home. As a teacher, my challenge is to bring the WORLD to them by bringing it INSIDE the school walls. By adopting our class, you are playing a crucial role in many students life by helping them develop math skills. You too can be responsible in those moments when a student who is upset finally exclaims, "I GET IT!!" The rewards are endless in education. These children are our next generation...won'tyou help me as a teacher prepare them for their future? Thank you for taking the time to read this and your willingness to make a difference :)
