I have the privilege of teaching science and writing to thrid, fourth, and fifth graders. Of course, I seem to be more on the science side than the writing side, but that is OKAY with me! Writing fits in just fine with science.
Almost 80% of our students are on free and reduced lunch so I do everything I can to make experiences meaningful and fun.
Position:
Teacher
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a science teacher. I love to get my hands and feet dirty to learn everything I can about the world we live in. At home I have 2 cats (Tigger and Inkblot) and a crazy dog named Sandy.
College and Degrees:
I am currently working on my PhD in education with special focus on... you guessed it, science.
Activities:
What with school and college, about the only free time I have is dedicated to church. I also write creatively (as well as the pages and pages required for everything else).
Favorite Books:
The Lord of the Rings books as well as movies have to be my all time favorite. There are books I tend to read over and over each year or so, including Swan Song, Rats of Nimh, Pride and Prejudice, and Secret Garden.
Favorite Quotes:
"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." Einstein
Interests:
Wow. Let's see. Science of course, especially physics and chemistry. Gardening, science fiction and fantasy books, writing, poetry, classical and baroque music- lots of interest, so little time.
Employment History:
I have taught elementary science for 10 years in Tulsa, OK and Vero Beach, FL.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I want children to grow with a passion for learning about the world we live in, and a few we don't. It isn't that I can't make it anywhere else, it's that I am blessed enough to encourage the future.
