I teach 27 gifted students in grades 1st through 5th, in a resource setting, implementing an interdisciplinarycurriculum. I also work with 62 above average students to provide enrichment activities that strengthen critical thinking, creative fluency, and problem-solving skills.
Position:
Gifted Program Teacher
Needs:
We need access, immediate access to digital resources;the internet in particular as there is only one computer workstation in the room, my laptop, which students are not allowed to use. School lab space/time is at a premium due to local and system-wide mandates. Our greatest need is 2-3 more workstations. A wish would be to have our own smartboard that works the way gifted students think!
My Philosophy:
I believe teachers have been given the privilege of guiding and nurturing their students toward self-actualization.My responsibility as a teacher is to provide and help students use all of the available resources, while implementing the best, research-based strategies in my teaching practice. Because my students need consistent, intellectual stimulation, I must constantly find novel ways to introduce concepts. I am also a beneficiary of the activities I plan and realize that I will enjoy the experience as much as they.

In my classroom there is no ‘can’t, there is only ‘do’. I teach my students to realize the significance of the body of knowledge, the need for accuracy and reliability, and their contribution to the evolution of all that we know.
I am proud to call myself teacher, because I know I create opportunities for students to recognize the unique gifts they possess, and their ability to use them to change the world. My vision is to provide effective instructional leadership, with a commitment to developing students’ academic and interpersonal skills, while advocating for seamless integration of technology in instruction.
