My class is full of some of the most inquisitive 9th graders (and occasional upperclassmen) anyone could ever hope for. They love to learn about how things have progressed to the point where they are now
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I need more opportunities for them. Primarily, opportunities to see WHY things are like they are, instead of just accept that they are. I would also like more opportunities to let them create a bit of their own history through film making
My Philosophy:
Teaching boils down to two things - 1) Passion for the subject (which I have in spades) and 2) Relationship with the student. I work very hard to achieve and maintain both of those characteristics
Personal Information:
About Me:
I primarily teach World History and LOVE IT! I love teaching high school freshmen because they still believe that anything is possible, and have not yet been jaded.
College and Degrees:
I started my college career at Palm Beach Community College, in South Florida. Then I went to Three Rivers Technical College in Norwich, CT, and finally ended with a BS in History Education from Utah Valley University
Activities:
Mostly I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters when I'm not at school. At school, I'm in charge of the Global Awareness Club, as well as helping out with boys and girls soccer
Favorite Books:
Peter the Great - Peter K. Massie
Trinity - Leon Uris
Anything by Kurt Vonnegut
A Long Way Gone - Ishmael Beah
Favorite Quotes:
In my country, we go to prison first, then become president - Nelson Mandela
Life's most persistent and urgent question is WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP OTHERS? - MLK Jr.
Interests:
I love African History, Middle Eastern History and Latin American History.
Employment History:
Teacher for the last 4 years
Lots of odd jobs before that - UPS, Landscaper, Car wash, Framing houses, Movie theater manager, etc.
