Class Description:
I teach first grade near a military base. We have a large military population in our district, which also lends itself to a diverse cultural population.

Needs:
I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program with emphasis on technology. I have three computers and an LCD projector, but would like to have a smart board, digital camera and a flip video camera to engage my students in class activities and bring my classroom to the 21st century technological age.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is based on the constructivist theory in which students are encouraged to take part in creating opportunities for learning. I believe in providing hands-on activities that allow for growth and reflection as this is at the heart of learning.

About Me:
I have been married for 20 years to a wonderful husband who supports my passion for teaching and my return to school. We have two yellow Labrador retrievers, Buck and Sam. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher and serve as a mentor to other teachers pursuing certification.

I just love to read! I enjoy mysteries, romance, historical fiction, spiritual based stories, and children's books. As I child, I always loved Madeline.

Interests:
I run 3-5 days/week with my best friend. We enter 5K, 10K, half/full marathon races for "personal" goal fulfillment; definitely not competitive races. I also enjoy boating, fishing, reading, going to the beach, and spending time with my family.
Employment History:
I am currently in my 21st year teaching. I love working primary age students. I serve as an model observation classroom in balanced literacy for our district. I am also the staff development coordinator for our school.
Why Do I Teach?:
I can't imagine not teaching! As a primary student, I lacked the familial support need to succeed and consequently struggled in school. I was fortunate to have a dedicated fifth grade teacher who nurtured me to excel academically. As a teacher, I am in a position to pay it forward and honor the profession that gave me a direction in life by impacting the lives of young children.
