I am the librarian for the district. I have two libraries to manage (one in the elementary and one in the secondary). I work with students beginning in Kindergarten and ending with 5th year college students.
Position:
Media DIrector
Needs:
I have found a real need for a mobil laptop in the elementary school. We are limited in the number of computers available to the students. One of the biggest items in teaching Information Literacy skills is to teach students how to locate, access, and evaluate information. Elementary students need to know how to apply this to electronic information as well as print. I would love to be able to work with a group of elementary students and teach them how to use databases and how to effectively surf the web.
My Philosophy:
The educated person is not the person who knows all the answers, but the person who knows where to find the answers. Information is changing as such a fast rate that we need to invest our time and resources into teaching all of our students information literacy skills. All people, no matter their educational background or college education, need to know how to properly and efficiently access reliable information.
