Class Description:
I have 7th grade English as a Second Language, English Language Arts and Social Studies classes that I teach as well as 8th grade English as a Second Language, English Language Arts and Social Studies classes. I teach in Bronx, New York. My students come from an economically disadvantaged community where unemployment rates are at an all time high. Many of my students have been through things you only see in movies and at age 14, they have experienced things most adults haven’t. The majority of my students haven’t even been out of the Bronx to explore outside their neighborhood. Most of my students read below grade level, but they’re willing to work hard to learn the skills they need to succeed. Despite all of this, they are my true heroes, bravely facing the cruel outside world, yet putting aside their economic and social hardships. They choose to learn and come to my class, hoping to absorb the knowledge they need to be successful. Although there’s a lot of chaos going on outside our building, the students know they can find a warm, welcoming and vibrant space to go to every school day. They deserve to have the opportunity to explore the world through the eyes of a lens and share their findings. My students are caring and kind students who are always looking to make a difference and they love being challenged.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Our class would love to implement video cameras in our class to document the great work they are doing. Although our mini-school/academythat we work in is called Technology and Literacy Academy, we lack a class camera for the students to use in our classes. This would be a great opportunity to make a difference in my student’s lives so they can make creative and innovative presentations that are authentic and they can be proud of. Upcoming projects include: a historical fashion show, presentations, mini tv shows and movies, etc.
My Philosophy:
No matter what you have been through, you can’t let your past dictate who you are. You have to be willing to work harder than the next person and be willing to invest all that you have to succeed.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because it’s rewarding. I’m never bored and it’s an opportunity to pay it forward because I was blessed with teachers who cared and special people who believed in me and I want to be that person for my students. I love sharing my knowledge with them and as a teacher, I am also a student, constantly learning my trade and content as well as learning about myself and my students. At times, it’s extremely challenging, but I come back every day knowing that I give 110% to my students and I try to make a difference!
