I have 20 fifth graders in my homeroom, all with varying strengths and needs. I am also responsible for teaching reading to these 20, plus an additional 20 from another classroom. I teach history to the entire grade level (at 80 students this year) once a week.
Position:
5th grade teacher
My Philosophy:
I see the flattening of the world as a wake up call to educators. Not only are we preparing our students for an unforeseen future, but one which will require international collaboration and, yes, sometimes competition. Global education is integral to the sustainability of our planet. We must start now, by enabling our students, through the use of technology, to create their own content, to reach out to their peers on a global stage, and to experience other cultures. Only in this way can we build a more peaceful, empathetic world.
