This request addresses the interest and energy of middle school students, while incorporating national standards in content areas and technology. It is activity oriented to show students how technology is used to create valuable projects. The activities will excite and motivate students to use their imaginations and teach them to be creative and innovative, while gaining the skills they need to develop, and produce technology infused projects.

It also provides project-based learning—a hands-on approach--that is exciting and fun for the full-range of students in today's grade 6 – 8 classrooms and that relates technology to students' daily lives. It also promotes communication and collaboration by emphasizing a team approach. This approach utilizes the strengths of each team member to accomplish the goals of the project, while offering students learning challenges at all ability levels.

This also helps students develop and hone skills in middle school that enable them to enter the high school program with foundation knowledge and skills for success.

Students who are already at risk of educational failure often attend schools that provide fewer opportunities for meaningful learning. The development of high-technology learning tools holds promise for leveling the playing field and ensuring equity in educational opportunity for all students in all schools.

Today, technological literacy--computer skills and the ability to use mobile devices and other technology to improve learning, productivity and performance--is a new basic that our students must master. Preparing our children for a lifetime of technology use is now just as essential as teaching them to read and write and do math.
