Our goal is to integrate more robotics, engineering and coding into our freshmen and upperclass physics classes by incorporating Hydrobots and underwater challenges from MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) to get kids building, designing and testing underwater robots. In addition to exploring authentic applications of the physical concepts we cover in class (buoyancy, forces, torque, thrust & drag), students will also develop familiarity with a variety of technical professions while learning about the engineering design process. We are hoping to purchase 8 basic "Pufferfish ROV" kits to get students familiar with the physical concepts and device control, as well as two advanced "Triggerfish ROV" kits that include camera-guided controls (and can be used in regional Hydrobot competitions, for students who are interested in pursuing this opportunity). These kits would potentially be used by all of our freshmen physics students (Appx. 800 students) as well as students in our AP physics courses (Appx. 130 students).
Please help us bring this awesome experience to our Northglenn Physicists!
