Target class: Students with autism and developmental disabilties in grades 6-8

Lesson objective: To create student profiles and attach high interest reports on school system safe internet site.

Long term goal: To teach students how to use current technology to engage in social networking safely.

Lesson details: Students will learn how to use netbook software to type personal descriptions including their likes and dislikes. Students will choose a subject of interest and use netbooks to research and create a short report. Students will then use digital cameras to add visuals to their profiles and report. The profiles and reports will be uploaded on the school system safe internet site. Students will also learn rules for safe internet use, how to interact appropriately with other friends on the site, and how to use email functions.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students can update personal account with new topics of interest in areas of career exploration, current events, or school experiences
