After studying the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, the students will pick a topic to rap about. (Some suggestions are Election of 1800 tie, Marbury v. Madison, Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, Hamilton v. Burr, Barbury Pirates).

Following the rubric, the students are to create a rap using appropriate language, that outlines the important and interesting facts about the topic they have chosen. They may use the textbook, any notes taken in class, and supplemental texts to gather information for their rap. Choreography is encouraged to make it more interesting to watch. I have a "rap beats" sound clip purchased from iTunes that the kids can use as their beat. Otherwise, they may beatbox, or drum on a desk for their beat.

We will perform raps in class, and I will videotape using the flip camera. The kids are then allowed to watch the videos and critique themselves. They can also watch videos from previous years for ideas before the lesson begins.
Follow-Up
Show select videos during test review time. Students who get lyrics stuck in their heads do well on the test!
