Objectives: Students will be able to: 1. Discuss and explain the purpose of public service messages. 2. Work as a group towards a common goal. 3. Utilize various technological resources to develop materials relating to public service messages. 4. Prepare a storyboard to illustrate what will be recorded during the ‘commerical’. 5. Prepare, edit and produce a ‘commercial’ on a chosen public service message.

Essential Questions • What is a public service message and what is the purpose of one? • How do you develop a plan to create a video?
• What technology can help prepare, produce and edit a video?
Initiating Activity Ask students if they have ever seen a public service message. Have students describe the commercial and what the message was and what impact it made on them.
Culminating Performance Students will work in small groups to develop, produce and edit a public service message that is relevant to their age group and share with their class and school. Students will select the public service message that illustrates their purpose best and publish them to web.

Classroom Activities
1. Students will discuss what public service commercials are and describe the purpose and impact they can make.
2. Students will view actual public service commercials and examine what made them successful. (commercials that communicated their messages).
3. Students will be assigned groups and choose a message or issue they would like to use for the public service message commercial they will create.
4. Students will brainstorm and come up with ideas for their commercial, (i.e.; bullying, homework, snowmobile safety, etc.).
5. Students will create a storyboard and dialogue for their commercial.
6. Students will be introduced and taught how to use the Flip cameras.
7. Students will film their commercials with the Flip cameras while using their storyboard and dialogue as a guide and edit their films utilizing Flip camera software.
8. Students will present to class and fellow classmates will have opportunity to critique and vote for best public service commercial. (the commercial that bests communicates its message).
