School: Elton High School, Elton, LA
Planned By: amy gobert
Original Author: amy gobert, Elton
1. Students are introduced to Ralph Waldo Emerson and transcendentalism.

2. Students will be asked to think about the following: "Nature is our greatest teacher. What things can nature teach us?" Students will brainstorm in groups this topic and then share with the class.

3. Students will read and discuss Emerson's "Nature".

4. Students will then be asked to create their own nature video as a class. FLIP cameras are distributed to various members of the class as they take a nature walk around the campus and take video of various anything that they consider apart of nature. Examples include animals, insects, clouds, sun, dirt, grass, flowers, etc.

5. All video is then collected and created into a movie using the FLIP camera software, including music.. (It was much easier to take student's videoes and take still pictures and incorporate them into one movie.)
Comments
This was easy and turned out to be a fabulous video that the students are now very proud of.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This could also be hooked to something that is going at the same time in their science classes.
