We are basically starting from scratch with our middle school science program. I am new to this school as of this year along with a new principal. We both bring strong science background to the school and realize that the program or lack of science program is in drastic need of an overhaul. The lab has microscopes that have been handed down from one closed catholic school to another so many of them do not focus well, or are missing objectives, or eyepieces, or the focus knobs just don't work, etc. We do not have but a few typical graduated cylinders, beakers, flasks (glassware in general), and even breaking our average size class of 17 into groups of 4 or 5 makes doing measurements difficult. digital camera, new wireless laptop for teacher. We have been investigating bringing Project Lead The Way (STEM program) to our science curriculum, however, we will need to get basic updates in equipment before doing so. We need magnets, scalpels, prisms, concave and convex mirrors and lens, tuning forks, hot plates, aprons, goggle sanitizing cabinet, syringes, basic metals, wirings, inoculation loops, agar, flammable cabinet. It is also necessary to get a new projector, new document camera, and new laptop for the instructor. We are still using chalk boards and whiteboards. I do not have a smart board in either the lab nor the science classroom. Any donations will be extremely helpful. We are attempting to build our own hydroponics and aeroponics systems to enhance our Intro to Plants unit for 7th grade. We did build our own shaker table for our 6th grade unit on earthquakes and building structure.
