Good morning everyone. I know you are winding down with school, so I have planned a fun lesson for today.
Imagine, for a moment you have been placed on a committee to develop spirit week for your school¡¦s football homecoming. Your committee has two- days to develop a complete schedule of events and activities for the student body to participate in. You have no experience with this or anyone else in the room. It¡¦s dead silent in the room.
- How did you feel? - Scared - Stressed - Ready to take action - What would you do in that situation? - Sit quiet - Wait - take the lead - What were the results? - I took action - I waited Thank you everyone for sharing!
After today¡¦s lesson, students will be able to define what a leader is, why they are needed, how they can lead.
How would you define a leader?
What is a leader? „X An influence on others¡¦ actions, thoughts and behaviors. „X positive influence „X carry the confidence „X bear the burden
What does a leader look like to you? Close your eyes and think of the power point we just covered.
Now everyone draw their picture of a leader. Don¡¦t worry about what everyone else has on their paper.
Now break into groups of four or five. Share your work with others. Select the best drawing in the group, as a group.
One person from each group, stand up and show your picture and explain it.
Very nice, thanks for participating.
Does anyone have any questions, so far? Great, lets move on.
Why do we need leaders?
Needs are pretty powerful... When I wake up in the morning I need to brush my teeth, at lunch time I need to eat, and at night I need sleep.
When I say go, you have one minute to create a motion/movement dealing with the reason you received as to why leaders are needed. When my hand goes in the air, like this, everyone will stop talking and look at me for the next instruction.
Thank you for listening. Now When I say ¡§A leader in needed¡K.¡¨ And point at a group you will stand and do your motion, all together. As you rise and do your motions say ¡§A leader is needed to¡K (Your strip of paper).
Why are leaders needed? -expedite committee matters -ensure everyone is heard -delegate responsibility -provide encouragement -diffuse conflict -help others grow -show sensitivity to others I loved all the motions. Thanks! We know that we need leaders in our everyday lives and we can build upon that by exploring situations where we can lead others. I hope you will keep an open mind of how you can lead others.
Does anyone have any questions thus far?
Stop for a moment, think... Have we outlined ways to practice leadership? Many of you would have answered no! So where do we begin? For the next couple minutes I would like you to capture the seven ways we can lead and then we will follow up with and activity.
Ways I can lead: „X serve as a good example „X be optimistic „X listen „X express willing attitude „X dedicate myself „X take initiative „X exude confidence
Now that we have covered the seven ways to lead, let¡¦s individualize it.
Write down where you can include your leadership (a place, or group, where you can exhibit your leadership) Lay your pencil/pen down and look at me when you¡¦re finished.
When I say share, get out of your chair quietly and go share your answer with someone else.
When I say stop, go back to your seat and sit quietly. Great!!! Wonderful job! Would anyone like to read something from their list out loud?
Well does anyone have any questions? |
