Grades 1 through 6
School: Wessington Springs Elem School, Wessingtn Spg, SD
Planned By: Julie Bruckner
Original Author: Julie Bruckner, Wessingtn Spg
Objectives:
1. Students will write an additon or subtraction story problem.
2. Students will direct classmates in acting out the story problems.
3. Students will be able to write the correct math equation and label to go with each story problem.

Each student wrote and edited an addition or subtraction story problem. They had to list their setting and characters.
The student drew classmates names out to be the "actors" for their story problem movie.
The student then "directed" their classmates for their story problem movie.
The teacher used a flip camera to record each story problem.
Once all students have had their story problem filmed, the movies were then played for the whole class.
After each "movie" students solve the math problems by writing out the equation along with the label.

Comments
After doing this project once, the next time around the students would be able to also be the camera man(woman).
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
The project incoporates math, reading, and language arts standards.
Follow-Up
I will be showing the short video clips to parents at conferences as an example of student work.
