Objectives:
1. Develop a photographer's eye for storytelling, action, and interest
2. Capture moments and items of interest that represent what makes NSHS unique

Procedure:
1. Students are divided into teams of 2-4.
2. With cameras, students photograph people, places, things throughout the school. They are to focus on the creative.
- No mug shots
- No posed candids
- Variety is encouraged
- Try to capture photos that tell a story
- Take more photos than you need
- Don't be afraid to explore
- Go where most students cannot: the offices, outside, teacher workrooms, etc.
3. After all photos are taken, choose 3-5 to submit for the contest.
4. Write captions:
- 1st sentence: present tense (who, what is in the photo)
- 2nd sentence: past tense (how, why it is important)

Evaluation:
North Star editor(s) in chief will judge photos based on attractiveness, interest, originality, and representation of North Stafford. Winners will receive an A+ and be published. All others will be evaluated separately by advisor and receive a grade based on the above criteria.

This is such a fun contest. My students are still talking about it now at the end of the year, and planning for next year's.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This would work well as a cross with just about any class, but especially a Photojournalism I or an introductory Photography class.
Follow-Up
Students can rank/judge each other's photos
Students can write stories to go with the photos
