Keywords: Schoolyear History
Subject(s): Art, Technology, Music, Journalism, Photography, Podcasting, Special Needs, Information Skills
Grades K through 12
School: Hampshire Unit School, Hampshire, TN
Planned By: Linda Griner
Original Author: Linda Griner, Hampshire
The goal of this project would be to record daily activites at Hampshire Unit School that involve the students. We would record in each classroom, in the lunchroom, in the hallways, at recess, during sports, Homecoming, PTO Carnival, the list would go on and on. As students complete their year they could purchase a CD of their year in Hampshire School.
The objectives of this project would be to allow Visual Art students to determine the most appropriate events to tape. The students would find people who are from the community who attended HUS and record their memories. Upon completion students would edit the video, using only the most important footage. Popular music of the year could be added in the background. A copy of each year's history could be housed in the local museum and in the school library for people to enjoy. We might be able to post it on the school website, if that is possible to do.
The Hampshire School History would meet the need of allowing all students to take an active role in the school's history. It would serve as a reminder of their precious time at HUS. This project would be a true history of the year for years to come.
Since every student would be a part of this recording it would touch the lives of 100% of the student body. In our unit school the majority of students have siblings at Hampshire School. This would be a way to watch family and friends grow from kindergarteners to seniors.
The assessment of the project would be the completion of the video. The completed work would be evaluated by not only the producers, the recorders or the editors, but also by the purchasers.
Comments
This idea has been one I have tried to put into action for years, but the technology was far too expensive. This grant could make it become a reality.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Every teacher, every grade level, and many parents would be a part of the project.
