life cycle of a butterfly Page Views: 985

I will purchase a few caterpillars for my class. We will discuss what the caterpillars are doing and what will happen to them. We will read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We will view and discuss the happenings of the caterpillar every day, even if nothing has changed. As we view the caterpillar every day, we will take pictures of the caterpillar. The students will also draw what they see in their journals everyday. When the life cycle of a butterfly is complete and students have taken pictures every day, I will get the pictures developed for the students. I will have enough copies of the pictures for each student (since I have a small class). I will take out the "unnecessary" pictures of the life cycle (as some of the pictures will be very similar). I will mix the "necessary" pictures up and hand them out to each student. The students will put the pictures in order, giving the correct sequence of the life cycle of a butterfly. I will check each student's pictures for correct sequence for a grade. I will help the students put the pictures in correct sequence after I have checked everyone's pictures. I will then allow the students to glue or tape the pictures to a premade flow chart on poster board. After the flow chart is completed, I will give the students a worksheet with the life cycle of the butterfly. The students will have to label the parts using science terms we discussed during the project. The students will be able to take the poster board home at the end of the project. For further technology integration, the students can make a PowerPoint presentation of the life cycle of the butterfly using their pictures. Students can find pictures of butterflies and print them out. The students can make a picture graph on the different colors of butterflies. |
