Goal: Mother's Day Movie
Students will gather pictures from birth to present. They will need a minimum of 25 pictures. They may import pictures using sd cards, or any type card (with a card reader with usb connection). IPhoto is what my school uses on an EMAC and IMAC. I also encourage students to scan their pictures and put them on cd. Then import them into the macs.
The students will arrange the pictures in timeline form. They are required to create a title, use 2-3 transitions, 2-3 effects, import a minimum of 2 songs, and burn the completed dvd. I have a rubric in place for grading.
Students will also research a mother's day poem using the internet or create their own poem. They will read the poem and import it using the editing software (my school uses IMOVIE on the Macs or MOVIE MAKER on the IBM).
We also create a still picture from streaming video and export it to an sd card to make a customized label for our completed dvd. We use the label maker from Neato.com.
I use both computers so that my students will be familiar with each type software and computer. We watch the videos when they are completed using dvd player and a tv.
Note: Mothers have told me how much this has meant to them (with tears in their eyes). |

Comments |
This is a wonderful gift for young people who are not old enough to buy their mom's a present. It means the world to the mothers. They have shared with me how much they appreciate this item and this class. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
The students will use this type project when they are studying powerpoint in the Microsoft office suite. Also, students will create movies in other classes, such as health and history when teachers assign them a topic. The teachers allow the students to use technology to show the video they have created. |
Follow-Up |
The students realize the magnitude of creating such a permanent and long lasting movie with loved ones (such as a deceased grandparent they had pictures of from years ago). We created a movie when our Soldiers left for Iraq. We also offered for the parents to come to the school and speak to their loved ones. We would send the video to the soldiers. |
